Following the successful pilot of Baisinga LAMPS in Mayurbhanj, the Cooperation department of Odisha govt has earmarked 78 primary agriculture cooperative societies for the world’s largest grain storage initiative, reports the New Indian express.
The project aims to enhance food security, reduce wastage, and empower farmers economically by constructing decentralized storage facilities.
The Ministry of Cooperation has urged the state government to identify primary cooperative societies for the pilot projects, focusing on land size for storage capacities ranging from 500 to 2,000 tonnes.
Financial support from the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and subsidies, coupled with the revenue generated by primary societies during paddy procurement, will fund the construction of storage facilities, ultimately curbing distress sales and ensuring better crop prices for farmers.
