Following the centre’s footsteps, the Naveen Patnaik govt of Odisha has also decided to ramp up both the number of PACS and their operations. To begin with, the govt has decided to open up many PACS & LAMPs in the Panchayats.
The Odisha government has decided to form 1,300 more Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS) and enhance their infrastructure to meet the growing credit needs of farmers in rural areas.
The Cooperative Department has asked districts to complete the process of setting up new PACS and LAMPS in the state by March 31. Registration of such new societies will be done only online.
There are 2,495 PACS and 215 LAMPS in 6,794 panchayats of the state.
