According to media reports, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has pressured the BJP and by extension the state government to withdraw its earlier decision about limited voting rights only to active members in cooperative bodies across the state.
As desired by the BJP, The Maharashtra Cooperatives Act, 1960 allowed only active members to vote during the elections of a cooperative body.
However, the decision has been overturned, revealing concessions BJP has to make to NCP if it rules the state in alliance with it. Those clued on the cooperative sector, say Ajit Pawar’s move is regressive for the functioning of co-op societies.
