In a rather surprise move, the committee of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has urged small coal mine owners in the State of Meghalaya to form cooperatives to switch to scientific and eco-friendly mining, reports Hindu.
B.P. Katakey, chairing the committee has offered the suggestion in his individual capacity and felt that cooperatives are best suited for rat-hole mining in Meghalaya.
The NGT has also called upon the state to look for new ways of mining so as to ensure safety measures, environmental clearance and restoring the areas mined.
