Samajwadi Party has fielded Shyam Sundar Singh Yadav from Jhansi Lok Sabha, denying Chandra Pal Singh Yadav or his son Yashpal the seat. A MLC in UP Legislative Council Shyam Sunder is said to be a weak candidate compared to Chandra Pal.

“Nobody can match the following of our leader Chandra Pal in Jhansi and denying him a chance is not a good idea for the Party”, said one of his loyalists.

Indian Cooperative has learnt that the Party had earlier promised Chandra Pal that since he is in Rajya Sabha, his son Yashpal’s candidature would be considered. But it was ultimately given to Shyam Sundar Singh Yadav who is said to be realtor having deep pockets.

The Samajwadi Party named five more candidates in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday which included Nasir Qureshi from Moradabad, Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar from Bareilly, Puja Pal from Unnao, Shyam Sundar Singh Yadav from Jhansi and Nathuni Prasad Kushwaha from Kushinagar.

According to the seat-sharing formula, the SP is contesting from 37 seats, BSP from 38 seats and the RLD from three seats in the state. The SP-BSP-RLD alliance has left two seats for the Congress.

Considering an alliance with BSP this time round, it is learnt that Chandra Pal was eager to contest LS seat himself. “But when the Party told him that his RS term is yet to end, Chandra Pal agreed rather reluctantly on his son’s name. But now even that was denied”, said a close confidant of Yadav.
