NDDB’s issue acquires political overtones; veterans oppose move
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

More than 200 dairy cooperative industry veterans have joined hands with MILMA, opposing the proposed amendments to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) that could privatise the body.

The proposed changes focus on diluting the dairy industry’s cooperative strategy, the appointment of private industry experts on board of NDDB and allowing the NDDB to invest in non-cooperatives, they have claimed in a letter written to the Centre.

Those opposed include retired MDs of Amul, Nandini, Milma and others. Incidentally, GCMMF and NDDB themselves are silent on the issue.

Set up in 1965, NDDB’s subsidiaries include Indian Dairy Machinery Company Limited, Mother Dairy and Indian Immunological Limited. Its programmes and activities seek to strengthen farmer cooperatives and support national policies that are favourable to the growth of such institutions. Cooperative principles and cooperative strategies are fundamental to the NDDB, claims its website.
