NCUI, the apex body of cooperatives in the country has lined up an impressive programme to celebrate the International Day of Cooperatives on Saturday, 6th July 2019. The theme for the year 2019 is “COOPS 4 DECENT WORK”.
The programme which starts at 10 am would include many participants such as Mr. Jagdishwar Goburdhun, GOSK, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to India, Mr. Satoshi Sasaki, Deputy Director, ILO, Sung Chang Hong, MD of NH Bank Korea, Ms. Mirai Chatterjee, Chairperson, SEWA, T.K. Kishor of ULCC, Mohit Dave of ICA-AP.
The programme includes a Symposium on the theme “COOPS 4 DECENT WORK” to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 8 and Children’s Picture Contest have been organized.
The International Cooperative Day of ICA as well as United Nations International Day of Cooperatives is celebrated on 1st Saturday of July every year. On the occasion, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) appeals to its member to promote cooperative movement and support their national and local cooperative initiatives by organizing events.
The event underscores the contributions of the cooperatives towards a decent working environment. According to ICA, cooperatives around the world employ almost 10% of humanity’s total working population or the main source of income for more than 27.9 crore people.
The theme reflects the second International Cooperative Principle “Democratic member control”.
