The Indian government has allowed the export of 2 lakh tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Malaysia via the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), media reports say.
While such exports have been banned since July 20, 2023, to ensure domestic supply, exceptions are made for countries addressing food security needs. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) confirmed the approval.
NCEL, a multi-state cooperative society supported by entities like Amul, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, and NAFED, also facilitates exports to nations like Nepal, Cameroon, and the Philippines under special permissions.
