The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025, following a discussion led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Addressing the House, Shah emphasized the vital role of the cooperative sector in India’s economy and highlighted the significant achievements of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
Shah announced that NCDC has recorded a remarkable profit of Rs 800 crore this year. He credited this success to the repayment discipline of small farmers and rural borrowers, stating that NCDC has conducted business worth Rs 90,000 crore with zero Non-Performing Assets (NPA).
Highlighting key initiatives, Shah informed that NCDC has provided 44 sea trawlers to fishermen in Gujarat and Maharashtra and allocated Rs 10,000 crore to support 48 cooperative sugar mills. Additionally, around 3,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and 1,070 Fisherman Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs) have been established to strengthen cooperative farming.
Shah underscored that NCDC has not only expanded its loan disbursement but also managed to keep NPAs at zero while increasing profits from Rs 100 crore to Rs 800 crore. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering the cooperative sector and ensuring financial sustainability through such initiatives.
We fully appreciate the performance of NCDC in terms of very nice turnover & profit. It has very well achieved the performance and overall service to the farming community.
We would indeed appreciate if some other Institutions can follow this unique path.
Let NCDC come out openly for service to the farming community. It would be important if Institution can further expand its activities for the rural community in particular.
