With tomato prices plummeting in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other major producing states, the Government of India has decided to implement the transportation component of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to support farmers.
Under this scheme, when there is a significant price gap for TOP crops (Tomato, Onion, and Potato) between producing and consuming states, the operational costs for storage and transportation will be reimbursed to Central Nodal Agencies (CNA) such as NAFED and NCCF.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the implementation of the MIS transportation component for tomatoes in Madhya Pradesh through NCCF. NCCF is actively making arrangements to commence transportation operations to stabilize prices and ensure fair returns to farmers.
