Having been made one of the promoters in the upcoming multistate co-op for organic produce NCCF intends to cash in on its network of member consumer co-ops for both the production of organic stuff and its marketing.
Talking to the Indian Cooperative the NCCF Chairman Vishal Singh said that the field is new not only for us but also for many others. We will acquire the necessary technical skills and help our member societies produce stuff which could be marketed in foreign countries, he added.
It bears recall that three leading cooperatives viz, GCMMF (Amul), NAFED, NCCF and other two national level organizations viz., National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) have joined hands for establishing this national level entity in the sector.
With an estimated global organic food market to be around Rs 10 lakh crore where India’s share is a paltry 2.7 per cent, the Government is eying unlimited opportunities for business on the platter to boost income of farmers for which it has set up a national level cooperative society for organic products.
