Nandini Azad, president of the Indian Co-operative Network for Women (ICNW) has become the vice-chairperson of the ICA Global Gender Equality Committee.
The news was shared by Azad through mail in which she wrote, “I’ve just become the ICA global gender equality committee vice chairperson. The announcement was made at the GEC meeting (virtual) held the day before with all constituents from Europe, Latin America Asia participating”, she added.
The Gender Equality Committee (GEC) of the International Cooperative Alliance is a catalyst for changes to make gender equality a reality in all cooperatives and serves as a forum for the discussion and exchange of experiences and ideas on issues related to gender equality.
The Gender Equality Committee is a thematic committee of the International Cooperative Alliance which promotes equality between women and men and gender integration in the cooperative movement and society in general.
Mrs Azad has become the first Indian woman to be elected to the board of the International Raiffeisen Union (IRU) in Germany. The IRU is the one of the world’s oldest cooperative unions and is a worldwide voluntary association of national cooperative organisations.
She is also the chairperson of the outreach committee for the National Credit Fund for Women and E-Women’s Market Portal under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
