There was an increase of 375 registered cooperative societies covering agriculture and allied activities during 2016-17 in Nagaland, reports Morung Express.
A total of 7990 cooperative societies are registered with the government, Nagaland Economic Survey 2016-17.counts.
According to the report, despite efforts to boost the economy through cooperative societies during 2016-17, 342 registered primary cooperative societies remained defunct.
Nagaland being predominantly a small scale economy, the role of primary cooperative societies is important.
Audit has been conducted for 926 primary cooperatives during 2016-17.
