With a view to offering relief to consumers, cooperatives like Nafed and NCCF are selling onion from the buffer stock to bring down onion retail prices on the market.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said the govt could put stock limit on onion traders if retail prices continued to soar, reports India Today.
The minister added that the govt would not act in haste as it was equally concerned about the interests of onion farmers.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also said onion prices would soon go down as agencies like Nafed are ramping up supplies on the domestic market.
