The apex body of urban cooperative banks-Nafcub is all set to elect a new board on 12th February 2024. Nine candidates are in the fray for seven seats of the board of directors and the election will be held at the NCUI headquarters at New Delhi.
The Nafcub board consists of 19 elected directors out of which 12 have been elected unopposed. The candidates from constituencies namely Cooperative Banks are in the fray, which has a total of 318 voters.
The Sahakar Se Samruddhi 24 panel led by the outgoing President Jyotindra Mehta and H K Patil have fielded seven candidates whereas two candidates including Pune People’s Cooperative Bank Director Subhash Mohite and Municipal Cooperative Bank Director Varsha Mali are fighting elections independently.
The candidates backed by Mehta-Patil are, A.M.Hindasgeri, CA Milind Kale, Chalasani Raghvendra Rao, Gautambhai Vyas, Gianchand Garg, K Kalappa and Kanjibhai Bhalala.
Meanwhile, releasing a brochure and urging voters to cast their votes in favour of their candidates, the panel led by Mehta-Patil said, “Nafcub Election for 2024-2029 is declared. Our existing panel has contributed greatly to the cooperative sector in its tenure 2019-2024 by forming Umbrella organization and resolving crucial matters with the RBI.
They further added, “You are wise voters, who wish for the prosperity and healthy enhancement of the co-operative sector, i. e. “Sahakar se Samruddhi”. We sincerely appeal to you to cast your votes for the “Sahakar se Samruddhi ’24” panel to support us, motivate us and be with us for the motto of strengthening and empowering a healthy co-operative sector with the same legacy”. they emphasized.
The independent candidates are also leaving no stone unturned in wooing the voters and urging them to vote in their favour. Subhash Mohite is a well-known cooperator as far as the Pune cooperative banking sector is concerned. He is also heading the Pune District Cooperative Banks Association.
Whereas, Varsha Mali is representing the salary earners cooperative bank-Municipal Cooperative Bank. The BMC employees are mostly associated with this bank. While talking to the Indian Cooperative, Mali’s opponents said that she would not get more than 10 votes.
