Indian Express reports with cooperatives introducing a clause on mortgaging land to them for getting loans, small and marginal farmers already hit by drought in Mysuru are finding it still more difficult to get agricultural loans.
In order to avail loans, farmers are not only supposed to collect all kinds of documents but also pay Rs 600 as charges for membership in cooperative societies.
A farmer is quoted saying the whole procedure costs them more the Rs 2,500 and also takes up three to four days. A farmers’ leader said the government was harassing farmers who were already suffering the consequences of a severe drought.
