Co-operatives figured prominently in the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 that opened in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Naming the women dairy farmers connected to Amul and Lijjat Papad Modi said co-operative movement is going a long way in empowering women in the country.
More than 1,500 businesspeople attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017. While the governing dispensations in India was represented by none less than Prime Minister Narendra Modi the US side was represented President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka who is also his Advisor.
Ivanka Trump was emotional in her praise for Modi’s leadership and his rise. “From your childhood selling tea to becoming prime minister, you’ve proven that transformational change is possible”, she said.
On his part, Modi too talked up bilateral relations, saying the GES 2017 event “not only connects Silicon Valley with Hyderabad but also showcases the close ties between the US and India.”
The theme of the summit was ‘Women First, Prosperity For All’, and it was here that the co-operative movement figured prominently.
