Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said cooperators of all stripes are praising measures taken by the central govt to make things better for the cooperative sector.
The Minister was talking to reporters after finishing her three-day tour of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra’s Pune district.
In a veiled attack Sitharaman said the creation of a separate ministry of cooperation by the govt has surprised people including those who exploited the cooperative sector. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is the Lok Sabha member from Baramati.
Sitharaman said that the reforms in the co-op sector, currently underway, would go a long way in strengthening the movement. She also said that even those who owe their political rise to the co-op movement, have never genuinely thought of strengthening at the grassroots level.
