In a bid to revolutionize the agricultural sector and support farmers across India, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has unveiled a series of groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives.
Under the flagship program ‘Kisan e-Mitra’, an AI-powered chatbot has been introduced to cater to farmers’ queries regarding the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This innovative solution, capable of handling inquiries in multiple languages, aims to streamline communication and provide vital assistance to farmers navigating government schemes.
Moreover, the introduction of the National Pest Surveillance System marks a significant milestone in combating crop loss induced by climate change. Leveraging AI and Machine Learning technologies, this system can swiftly detect crop issues, facilitating timely interventions to safeguard crop yields and enhance agricultural resilience.
Another notable initiative involves the integration of AI-based analytics for crop health assessment, utilizing field photographs alongside satellite, weather, and soil moisture datasets. This holistic approach ensures comprehensive monitoring of crops, particularly focusing on rice and wheat cultivation, thereby optimizing agricultural practices for improved yields and sustainability.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Arjun Munda, unveiled these transformative measures during a session in Rajya Sabha. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies, Minister Munda highlighted the pivotal role of AI in addressing pressing challenges and fostering growth in the agricultural landscape.
