The newly formed committee under the Chairmanship of Revenue Minister Balasaheb Patil to study the amendments made last year by the centre to the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, has asked suggestions from cooperators associated with UCBs.
A meeting was organized on Tuesday at Pune in which the committee members were physically present and co-operators were connected virtually. The meeting lasted two hours.
It is reported that around 400 banks have participated in the meeting and the minister sought their suggestions in this connection. He asked them to give their suggestions in writing as well.
Readers would note that the Maharashtra government’s move came days after the NCP alleged that the Centre was bent on the demolition of the cooperative banking sector.
