HT quotes officials of the dept of agriculture in Madhya Pradesh saying middlemen and businessmen impersonated hundreds of farmers to register at cooperative societies with a view to making money selling paddy to the govt at the minimum support price.
The price given by the govt was higher than their price. The scam came to light while carrying out physical verification in Jabalpur district where farmers complained their names were being misused by vested interests.
Such complaints from farmers have surfaced in several districts of the state. Meanwhile, the govt. has instructed the authorities to initiate legal action against those involved in the scam.
