Maharashtra Cooperative Development Corporation (MCDC) will now work as the nodal agency for Nabard in setting up farmer producer companies (FPCS) in the state. The latter was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 in 2000 with a share capital of Rs 100 crore. It has its headquarters in Pune, reports Indian Express.
Milind Akare, MD, MCDC, says about 10,000 farmer producer companies will be set up in the state.
The MD MCDC adds that Nabard and the central govt are already at work setting up such units and that they want to ensure such bodies work properly to promote the interests of farmers.
The FPCs would be set up through Mahafarm — a brand adopted by MCDC for branding and marketing of agro products & produce offered by co-operatives. MCDC has already listed scores of agro -products from PACS, FPCs and SHGs working in districts of Maharashtra.
