There are few fish co-ops in the country which have captured peoples’ imagination the way Matsyafed of Kerala has done. Due to Covid scare the co-operative body has decided to expand its online business.
According to Matsyafed officials, the co-operative is trying to make buying and selling fish a contact-less process. The annual per capita fish consumption counts 25 kg in Kerala.
New Indian Express reports the outbreak of the Wuhan virus pandemic has led to a huge reduction in fishing activities and closure of fish markets in Kerala -a development greatly affecting fish supply in the state.
It is worth repeating that fish is one of the popular food items for Malayalis. This explains why frozen fish supply had sold worth Rs 25 crore between April and June in the state.
