Shyam Benegal’s 1976 film Manthan will be screened at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles as part of the Emotion in Colour: A Kaleidoscope of Indian Cinema series, media reports say.
Funded by 500,000 dairy farmers, the film showcases Dr. Verghese Kurien’s pioneering milk cooperative movement.
Restored in 4K with support from the Film Heritage Foundation, Manthan premiered at Cannes Classics.
Its selection highlights the film’s lasting impact on India’s cooperative dairy industry and its role in empowering farmers.
