The well-known cooperator and NCUI Governing Council member, Mangal Jit Rai, has been elected unopposed as the new Chairman of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN) on Tuesday. Purna Prasad Sharma has been elected as the Vice Chairman of SICUN.
A committed co-operator, Rai has also served as the Chairman of the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd (NCDFI). He is also an active member of the National Executive Committee of Sahakar Bharati.
The elections for Chairman and Vice-Chairman were held during the 59th board meeting at the conference hall of SICUN in Assam Lingzey. Rai succeeds T.O. Lepcha who served as Chairman for nearly one year.
As soon as the news of his election as Chairman of SICUN was made public, Rai received many congratulatory messages from his followers via social media.
While talking to an Indian Cooperative correspondent, Rai expressed gratitude towards the newly elected team of SICUN for placing their trust in him and giving him such a significant responsibility.
He emphasized the importance of leveraging social media as a dynamic tool to engage a wider audience and outlined the need for innovative business strategies.
Dr. Rai also highlighted the continuous training and development of human resources as critical to enhancing the capabilities of cooperative societies in the region.
He called on all members to work collaboratively towards the shared vision of advancing a “Sunaulo and Samridh Sikkim,” stressing the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving sustainable progress.
He also announced plans for an upcoming oath-taking ceremony on September 4th, 2024, at the SICUN hall, which he promised would be a grand and symbolic event reflecting the innovative spirit of the cooperative movement.
The newly elected board of directors includes Hemant Kr Dahal, HB Gurung, Anil Kr Nepal, Chodup Lepcha, Ms. Tshering Doma Bhutia, Ms. Bishnu Kr Manger, Ms. Kalpana Gurung, and Ms. Sanu Bhutia.
