As the Maharashtra legislative council had put a brake on the bill, the state cooperation department is re-promulgating ordinance to prevent directors of cooperative banks dissolved for financial management from fighting cooperative elections, reports Hindustan Times.
The state govt had earlier promulgated an ordinance in this regard.
The move had triggered a confrontation between the BJP-led government and the Congress – Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) combine. The new law would affect politicians from the opposition, including former deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to postpone the hearing of the directors against whom it had earlier issued show-cause notices. A cooperative official is quoted saying the cooperative dept. will wait for the high court’s directives in the matter.
