According to media reports, this season Maharashtra would top the list in the country in the production of sugar, said Maharashtra Sugar Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad.
Sharing the figures till 27 March 2022, a total of 197 sugar mills in Maharashtra participated in the crushing. In which 98 are from the cooperative sector and and 99 are private sugar mills.
1120.04 lakh tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed. So far, 1162.74 lakh quintals (116 lakh tonnes) of sugar has been produced in the state.
He further added that for the last three years Uttar Pradesh has been at the forefront in sugar production but this year Maharashtra has broken the past record.
