Milk farmers in Maharashtra are protesting to demand higher procurement prices, media reports assert. Farmers’ protest is being held in Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Jalgaon and other places.
Swabhimani Setkari Sangthna is spearheading the protest. In a significant development, Gujarat’s Patidars’ leader Hardik Patel has come out in the support of Maharashtra milk farmers’ protest.
A source says the protest has affected Amul dairy’s collection centres at Vasai and Virar towns in the Palghar district as the cooperative giant decided not to collect milk from farmers today.
Amul is the single largest supplier of milk to Mumbai.
