The Puducherry government has deposited Rs 2 crore into the accounts of Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies as the first instalment of a loan waiver scheme for small and marginal farmers.
This financial support is part of a larger initiative to relieve debt for 1,579 farmers who took loans from cooperative institutions between 2016 and 2022. The total cost of the loan waiver program is expected to reach Rs 11.61 crore.
This measure aims to reduce the financial burden on farmers in the Union Territory, supporting their livelihood and fostering sustainable agricultural development.
Further instalments are expected to follow as part of the government’s commitment to rural welfare.
