The news of Murlidhar Mohol becoming the Union Minister of State for Cooperation has sparked joy, especially among cooperators in Maharashtra.
Mohol hails from Pune, Maharashtra, where the cooperative movement is notably strong. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to gain control of the cooperative sector, primarily in western Maharashtra.
He was elected as MP for the BJP from the Pune Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 Indian general election.
This is Mohol’s first term as an MP. The BJP secured the Pune Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive time as he defeated the Congress’ Ravindra Dhangekar by more than 1.23 lakh votes.
Despite being a first-term MP, he was appointed a Minister of State in the Indian central government. He previously served as the Mayor of Pune, taking over from Mukta Til.
