Kerala govt lodges petition in SC on KCMMF bill

The CPI(M)-led Kerala Government, in conflict with the Centre, lodged a petition in the Supreme Court against the President of India’s withholding of assent for four Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly without explanation, media reports say.

Notably, one Bill seeks voting rights for nominated members in the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, potentially bolstering LDF’s control.

Governor Khan’s camp finds the government’s legal action unprecedented and advises against it.

The lawsuit challenges the President’s withholding of assent, citing Article 163(2) of the Constitution, emphasizing the Governor’s discretion in such matters.
