Cooperative employees attached to Kerala Cooperative Employees Union has called for a strike on February 11, union state general secretary P S Madhusoodhanan said in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
According to a report in the New Indian Express the employees will take out a march to the Secretariat and district centres as part of the stir. The cooperative sector which has been providing permanent employment to around one lakh people through credit societies and non-credit societies was facing a crisis.
The state and central governments were following a policy destroying the popular banking system being implemented through the cooperative sector, said Mr Madhusoodhanan.
He said the Kerala Cooperative Employees Union was raising demands like protection of the cooperative sector, rectification of the anomalies in the amended Rules, end steps by Income Tax Department in collecting taxes on income from deposits, and pay revision for employees, the paper reported.
He said that Elamaram Kareem MLA will inaugurate the Secretariat march.
