Kerala: Co-op public transport buses under trouble

Hindu reports a draft public transport policy prepared by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) suggests the number of private buses in Kerala under the cooperative sector or under limited liability partnership (LLP) companies, has come down to as fewer as 10000 due to a continuous fall in their numbers.

A large number of such buses were beset by increased operational expenses, and mismanagement.

This was also due to many cooperative societies’ having a weak financial background.

The problem also arose due to cumbersome decision-making norms and political leanings of such societies, says the report.
