New Indian Express reports in a trailblazing development, half a dozen trade unions in Kochi in Kerala have joined together to form a cooperative society to work for the interests of autoricksaw drivers in the district. Kerala chief minister inaugurated the cooperative body.
In his inaugural remarks, the chief minister praised the initiative and said it would serve not only autoricksaw drivers but also the general public. He also called upon the people connected with cooperatives to shed their excessive sense of self-importance while working for cooperative institutions.
The chief minister also noted that this is the first time that a cooperative society is constituted as per the rules and regulations of the Cooperative Societies Act.
