Karnataka committed to amend co-op laws: Minister

Karnataka cooperative minister S.T. Somashekhar said the state was committed to amending the existing laws so as to strengthen the cooperative sector in the state.

Somashekhar said DCCBs and other cooperative organizations were seriously affected by frauds and scandals and they had been brought to the notice of union minister of cooperation Amit Shah, reports a news outlet.

According to the minister, cooperative bodies in the state had become synonymous with graft. Scores of complaints about irregularities were pouring in every day, he said.

The minister said cooperative banks were giving loans without following the necessary guidelines. He also warned dairy cooperatives against indulging in milk adulteration.
