Establishing 14 branches and enrolling over six lakh weavers, beedi rolling wagers and lace makers in cooperatives in Kanchipuram has been her remarkable accomplishment.
With her effort, skill and courage Jaya Arunachalam salvaged hundreds of thousands of people living on the margins of civilization and provided them with space in the mainstream society, this was no mean feat said Nandni Azad President of the cooperative founded by Jaya the iconic cooperator.
Earlier, Arunachalam was honoured with the Pride of Tamil Nadu for Women Leadership by Dr. R.L. Bhatia, the founder of the World Sustainability Congress.
Board member of several national-level co-op federations including NCCT, Jaya founded WWF on the principle that once you empower a women economically – you have changed her for ever – no one can ever take away her skills or her confidence.
