It’s a matter of pride for cooperative in general and IFFCO in particular that IFFCO became a part of India’s first inland voyage by a container ship. While PepsiCo India sent first ever consignment containing food and beverage to Varanasi, it would return with fertilizers from IFFCO Phulpur.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi received PepsiCo stuff from Kolkata from the container which would return with IFFCO stuff, thereby making the cooperative titan a part of history of unfolding waterways in the country.
It bears recall that Modi inaugurated the first multi-modal terminal built on the river Ganga in Varanasi (Kashi) on Monday. The Ganga watercourse is one of many waterways being planned. The World Bank is assisting Ganga waterways project which costs USD 738 million.
The water ways has connected Eastern Uttar Pradesh with the Bay of Bengal, Modi said in his speech. Waterways are said to be cheaper almost by half and throws open huge scope of business in water transportation.
Inland Waterways Authority of India is monitoring the project which claimed that the project would enable commercial navigation of vessels with capacity of 1500-2,000 DWT on river Ganga. The Inland Waterways Authority of India vessel will make its return journey with fertilizers from Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd.
