ILO, in partnership with COOP Okinawa, Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF), and Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU), organized three workshops in Attapeu Province on February 29 and March 1, 2024. Attapeu is a province of Laos in the southeast of the country.
Attended by 75 participants from various sectors including vocational training, commerce, and cooperative enterprises like Lao-Lao, the workshops focused on utilizing ILO’s Think.COOP and Start.COOP tools.
Ms. Heejin Ahn from ILO Bangkok emphasized the organization’s commitment to cooperative development globally. Mr. Ishihara from COOP Okinawa highlighted the cooperative ethos in Lao PDR.
The training aimed to empower participants with cooperative principles and strengthen cooperative initiatives. The initiative aligns with ILO’s youth empowerment project and COOP Okinawa’s cooperative establishment project, both funded by the Government of Japan, signaling a collaborative effort towards sustainable development.
