IFFCO has hailed the farmers of the country on the occasion of Kisan Diwas that falls on December 22 -the birthday of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. The largest farmers’ cooperative urged everybody to take a vow of enlightening farmers on issues of farming.
Tweeting on the occasion MD Dr U S Awasthi said it is important that farmers learn balanced use of fertilizer, seeds and application of related farming techniques. Caring for soil is of paramount importance in this context, he added.
Awasthi also remembered former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on whose birthday the farmers’s day is observed. He congratulated farmers of the country on behalf of the entire IFFCO family.
Born in a small Kisan family of Jats in western Uttar Pradesh, Charan Singh went on to become the most important leader of the community.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Charan Singh on his birth anniversary. In a tweet in Hindi, Modi said: “My tributes to the former prime minister and farmer leader on his birth anniversary.”
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh also paid tributes to Charan Singh and remembered him as a messiah of farmers on his FB wall.
Charan Singh was born in 1902 in Noorpur, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) in a middle class peasant family. He graduated in science in 1923, and did his post-graduation from Agra University in 1925.
