The Idukki District Cooperative Bank (IDCB) has devised a Rs. 200-crore housing scheme for the economically backward sections, modelled on the lines of the E.M.S. Housing Scheme in the State, a Hindu report says.
The scheme named Idukki Model Jawahar Housing Scheme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. It will be implemented in association with the three-tiered local bodies.
IDCB president E.M. Augusthy said the association of Idukki district gram panchayat presidents had forwarded the blueprint of the scheme to the government and it was selected as a model for building houses to the poor sections. “This is for the first time that a cooperative bank is taking the initiative to implement a housing scheme in a large scale,” he said.
