Housing co-ops to be surveyed: Minister

Over 12,000 co-operative housing societies in Mumbai likely to go to the polls soon would be surveyed once again to facilitate the polls, minister of state for co-operatives recently told the state assembly, reports Free Press Journal.

The state has over 81,000 registered cooperative housing societies. Most of them are supposed to go in for the elections before June 2015. .

Sources say the co-operatives department does not have adequate manpower to conduct all these elections. The remuneration given to conduct the elections is also not enough, because of which chartered accountants are not ready to be a part of the panel, sources add.

Dada Bhuse cooperative minister said most of 12,000 co-operative housing societies in category ‘C’ and ‘D’ scheduled to go in for elections after the month end haven’t furnished requisite information. The government would survey all such housing societies once again and borrow staff from other departments to carry out the elections, the minister stressed.
