While speaking during the Agriculture & Commodity Summit 2024, Vamnicom Director Hema Yadav said that the cooperative sector would play a big role in ensuring food security and cooperatives are taking the lead in this direction.
“Cooperatives have been procuring grains in an efficient manner. All buffer stock is being maintained by Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies. As food security is becoming more complex and the consumption patterns are fast changing, cooperatives will have to build their needed infrastructure”, said Yadav.
She further said that the World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in the Cooperative Sector will not only help farmers minimize the wastage of their food grains post harvest but also would help them make the decision about where to store their grains.
Besides, there are some co-ops which want to export their crop but due to some problems and barriers they failed to do so in the past. But now, the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) has come into existence, which will remove roadblocks for co-ops willing to export their crops, she asserted.
