Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha that the Pilot Project of the World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in the Cooperative Sector has been extended, with 599 additional Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) identified across the country as of November 21, 2024.
Maharashtra leads with 258 PACS identified, followed by Odisha with 79 and Rajasthan with 11, among others.
Highlighting progress under the initiative, Shah stated, “Godowns at the PACS level have been constructed in 11 PACS across 11 states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Tripura, and Rajasthan, with support from NCDC, NABARD, and NABARD Consultancy Services (NABCONS),”he informed.
He further noted that a total storage capacity of 9,750 metric tonnes has been created across these states under the Pilot Project. This development aims to bolster rural grain storage infrastructure and empower cooperatives across the country.
