The draft policy on farmer producer organizations (FPOs) aims to emulate the successful 3-tier Amul cooperative model by professionalizing FPOs and providing financial assistance, according to media reports.
The policy, which is expected to be finalized and notified soon, includes feedback from stakeholders. Key proposals include appointing CEOs from an empanelled list by the Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC) and organizing FPOs on a 3-tier basis.
The policy seeks to create a level playing field and support the formation and promotion of 10,000 FPOs under a 2020 scheme. The goal is to increase farmers’ income and streamline FPO operations.
