The Government of India is intensifying efforts to achieve self-reliance in the production of Phosphorus and Potassium (P&K) fertilizers, said Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a Lok Sabha session.
Measures include permitting fertilizer companies to increase manufacturing capacity and introducing new P&K companies and products under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) regime.
Notably, Potash derived from Molasses (PDM) has been included under NBS since October 2021. In the urea sector, the New Investment Policy (NIP) has facilitated the establishment of six new energy-efficient urea units, significantly boosting domestic production capacity.
The government is also promoting balanced nutrient management, organic fertilizers, and bio-fertilizers through various initiatives, including the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBARdhan) program.
These efforts aim to enhance sustainable agricultural practices, improve soil health, and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, she underlined.
