In a written reply to a question raised in the Lok Sabha, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that though the govt feels the need to have a Co-op University, no concrete move in this direction has been initiated so far.
“There is a need for the establishment of a Cooperative University to firmly deepen the foundations of the cooperative movement in the country. If any institution interested in the cooperative sector comes forward for taking the lead for the creation of such a university, the same may be considered”, said Shah.
“Requests have been received for the establishment of cooperative universities, including converting VAMNICOM into a cooperative university. the government has not yet taken any view in this regard, he added.
