Mahesh Rai has been again elected for the third term as the Chairman of Gopalganj Central Cooperative Bank in the recently held election. Rai is also on the board of Bihar Marketing Federation BISCOMAUN.
Announcing the result of the election Shailesh Das, Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Gopal Ganj the returning officer said “The Chairman Candidate Mahesh Rai has been elected as the chairman of the bank and he got 145 votes whereas his rival Satyendra Tiwari received only 95 votes out of a total of 241 votes”.
It bears recall that 27 nominations in all had been filed on 8th January. Of these, there were 6 candidates who had filed their nominations for the post of chairman but 4 of them withdrew their names on the day of withdrawal.
Satyendra Tiwari who was earlier the Vice-Chairman of the bank had contested the election for post of Chairman but could not succeed. Bijan Rai replaces Satyendra Tiwari.
Soon after the announcement of the result, talking to this correspondent on the phone an enthusiastic Mahesh Rai said “I was elected for the third term as the Chairman of Gopalganj District Central Cooperative Bank and I am thankful to the voters who cast their votes for me.”
Talking about some of the goals he intends immediately achieving during his tenure, he said ”we are planning to install ATMs facility in all the branches. To begin with, we will also make 85 PACCS Deposit Mobilization agents of the bank in order that these PACCS get strengthened”.
Gopalganj Central Cooperative Bank was established in 1917 and has deposits of Rs 250 crore. The Bank with a network of 16 branches earned a profit of Rs 40 lakhs in the last financial year.
