Goa State Co-op Bank under cloud

An independent MLA’ in Goa assembly alleged a scam in the tendering process of the accounts software of the Goa State Cooperative Bank. The MLA said this could cause the lack of security of banking transactions, reports Goa News.

Minister of cooperation said in the House as the bank is no longer a multi-state bank, it would soon under the control of the govt. And then the minister said a departmental inquiry would be ordered into the allegation.

Opposition, however, was not satisfied with the minister’s reply and called for a judicial inquiry. Opposition legislators maintained that due to the defective software the bank has suffered losses to the tune of Rs. 100 crore.

Earlier, an electronic data processing audit at the bank had pointed out the unsafe status of all banking transactions due to the defect in the software.

The house witnessed a heated argument between opposition and the govt. on the issue. Intervening in the discussion, chief minister said as of now there is no need for judicial inquiry.
