After Nepal, it is Africa’s turn. IFFCO-the largest agri co-op in the world has signed an MoU with the host of ICA General Assembly currently underway in Kigali- African Coops- promising to train its members in best co-operative practices.
The MoU also talks of providing them with the latest agri inputs such as Sagarika, WSF or Nano fertilizers. ICA President Ariel Guarco was also present in the signing in ceremony.
It bears recall that IFFCO team led by its MD Dr U S Awasthi has been meeting global co-op leaders on the sidelines of ICA’s General Assembly and Conference.
After the signing of the MoU Awasthi tweeted about the new deal. His tweet was later forwarded by IFFCO’s PR Head Harshendra Verdhan to Indian Cooperative in small hours.
The tweet reads” I am glad to share that today at #coopconference19 in #kigali #IFFCO signed an MoU with @ICA_AFRICA1 #AfricanCoops in presence of @ArielGuarco to do Coop to Coop Buisness. To promote new agri-input products like WSF, Nano & Bio Fertilisers & Sagarika by field trials.”
In the next tweet MD talks of working on the empowerment of African farmers by organising various cultural integration programs, Farmer training programs for overall development of farmers & cooperatives.
It bears recall that IFFCO MD has been continuously tweeting about the conference to update his followers. In one of his tweets he said “It was nice to team along with other Indian co-operators such as Chandrapal S Yadav, Sunil Kumar, and IFFCO directors to represent India at the welcome addresses.”
Awasthi also lauded ICA Africa and said they have organised the confluence of global coops. The IFFCO team is discussing various matters related to cooperative development across the globe & role of IFFCO in it. “I met various global cooperative leaders. It was a nice meeting with Mr. Hironori Hijioka, ED, Central Union of Agriculture Cooperatives, JAZenchu of Japan, he added.
