Party politics has begun sweeping Gujarat’s cooperative sector with the ruling BJP poaching Congress men. Several Congress lawmakers in the state have recently left their party and joined the BJP. The trend is significant as it developing just ahead of the assembly elections.
Ramsinh Parmar, the chairman of the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (also known as Amul Dairy), and former Congress MLA Mansinh Chauhan have formally been inducted into the BJP, reports media.
A source is quoted saying the entire dairy cooperative is now led by BJP supporters, while in cooperative banking space, about 80 per cent are with the BJP.
Given that the cooperative movement is rural-driven, political parties cannot afford to ignore the crucial vote base, a leading cooperator says.
